About Pop Soup
I started this blog to provide a forum for discussing, analyzing, dissecting, obsessing over, and making fun of pop culture. For as long as I can remember, I have spent an incredible amount of time doing these very things, and I recently found some catharsis in putting my thoughts into words. I am constantly fascinated by how American society interacts with and processes pop culture phenomena—anything from the meaning of popular art, such as Harry Potter‘s underlying messages, to the value of popular art, such as Lady Gaga’s performances, to our obsession with the comings and goings of celebrities, such as Britney Spears’s legal problems—and I like the idea of analyzing these phenomena with other people in an online forum.
Since I’m just starting out, I’m sure there will be plenty of kinks to work through, (I am not paticularly tech-savvy) but my goal is to post short essays discussing some of the deeper meanings that I have read into particular pop phenomena. Ultimately, this is my attempt to deconstruct and make sense of my own obsessions. But because I know I’m not the only one out there that gets wrapped up in these things, I thought I’d try to share the fun, and also bring a little levity to my thinking/writing process. Be patient with me, because I’m easily side-tracked by legal issues, (as you can see from my Indian Killer post) but I think some legal topics dovetail nicely with other pop goings-on (such as the aforementioned Britney).
I’d love your feedback, so comment away! If this particular format turns out to not work very well for back-and-forth interactions, I’ll change it. But in the meantime, my goal is to post one short essay per week, and I look forward to your thoughts on my thoughts!
